Safety is important, if a Lifeguard encounters or rescues a bleeding person there is an immediate threat of contamination of the wound by the Lifeguard and also the problem of the Lifeguard being infected by contact with the blood. Latex gloves provide a very important barrier to contamination and infection as well as make the patient feel comfortable about being treated. It is very easy to keep a box of gloves at a guard tower or at the First Aid Kit at the pool.
